I was a smart and sassy teenager who knew too much and had a truckload of righteous indignation.

As the middle child of a single mom of three, I was raised knowing that we didn’t have much but we always had enough. In my strong mind, everything was up for debate (and I sure debated!) but my siblings and I were told from a young age that college was a non-negotiable.

I always knew that my future would involve advocacy but had thought I was headed for a career in law. What I found was that I couldn’t commit myself to a system I saw as inherently bias and consequently had such little faith in. Social work ultimately provided the opportunity to pursue my passion for positive personal and political change.

I worked in substance abuse, eldercare, with teen parents, as a grant writer, community educator and organizer and ultimately found my meant to be destiny as a high school social worker. Working in the education system I am constantly looking for best practices and creative approaches to make school feel safe, supportive and meaningful for students while being mindful of equity, cultural relevance and how oppressive and exclusive a traditional school setting/structure can feel.

Career InTouch fills a void and addresses the needs of students in a way that is exciting, empowering and effective. They represent the future and I feel fortunate to be a part of it!!
